08-12-09 A new guitar added in the gallery.
This guitar has the internal project with the register inside, but with this instrument I'm proud to present, after a long work, a new design for the head. This head will replace the old one in next guitars.
You can view this guitar clicking here.
25-11-09 After a bit more than one year, the forum lucawaldner.com close.
Many reasons, most of them reported in this post of the forum (translated with google).
The forum will remain open in read only mode for registered users, the guest will not have access to it anymore.
19-07-09 In 25 and 26 July 2009, during the great International Guitar Festival in Fiuggi (Frosinone - Italy), there is a guitar exhibition in which I'll be present with a guitar.
The large program of concerts and events expect, during the morning of Saturday 25, free concerts on the guitars exhibited (whit meny performers and different music), while in the afternoon of Sunday 26 there is a comparison test (the same performer and the same composition) between the same guitars. It is a good opportunity to hear the guitars played in concert in the hall.
In the concert of Saturday 25 my guitar will be played by Riccardo Calogiuri.
Who lives near Fiuggi, or is there just for vacations, can seize the opportunity and take a trip to the festival, I'll have great pleasure to meet her/him in the real world any of the visitors of this website.
26-06-09 On days 3-5 July 2009 it will be held in Galliate (Novara - Italy) an interesting and articulate conference devoted to the guitar.
In this meeting it's also provided a section on the classical guitar in "Chitarre in Rivolta", with lectures, panel discussions, exhibitions of instruments and concerts.
I'll be present as exhibitor, so if at that weekend you have nothing to do, take part in the work, it's interesting and it would be a good opportunity to meet and know each other personally.
More informations in the website of the festival.
20-10-08 Completely new graphic layout and restructuring of the website.
The photographs are the work of Antonio De Luca, both dear friend and exceptional photographer who set himself the task of ‘smartening up’ the content of the site with far richer and more moderCn images than were in the old one.
I hope that you like it! And sorry if still there are a few elements "under construction".
We have also taken the opportunity to broaden its scope and renew the content and its layout. There are now more options in the menu and something else of particular significance. After having had long discussions with my friend Claudio Rampini on the subject of computers, internet and communications, he has convinced me, once and for all, to open a forum! (in Italian)
I know I’m going to hate him for the extra workload it will bring but am nonetheless delighted with my choice and warmly invite one and all to participate.
12-04-08 I have introduced for the first time in an actual rather than an experimental instrument, another fundamental innovation: a special and complex treatment of the spruce used for the soundboard. It is a treatment that I do myself with the aim of improving the already excellent acoustic properties of the Swiss spruce that I use.
One consequence that is immediately evident is the change of colour - the very warm and beautiful tone of wood which has been aged.
But what is yet more interesting is the sound.
Obviously it is not something that can easily be described in words. To simplify, what can be said is that the guitar loses that sound which is characteristic of new instruments, taking on a full, warm and mature sound characteristic of old guitars. Normally, this can only be achieved after a number of years’ wait.
Such a treatment need not cause alarm nor necessarily provoke anybody into taking up a strictly ideological stance for or against. In the past, a whole range of treatments of the most diverse types were widespread on acoustic woods and can be considered like varnishing, as something perfectly normal in many sectors (the use of gut for strings would be unthinkable without its being radically processed and modified) and does not in any way impinge on the quality of the spruce: quite the opposite, it really brings it out and adds something new.
In fact, it is an essential part of a long and ancient tradition, unlike widely accepted working practices today that have also moved so far away from the acoustic result. One need only think of the use of synthetic glues or synthetic spray-on varnish.
For a number of reasons, this specific instrument had been long awaited by my parents and especially by my father who passed away in January 2007. This guitar is dedicated to him.
09-03-08 After a long time without any updates, I'm back with some important news.
Apart from a few technical changes to the web site, perhaps not very visible and yet quite important (including the starting of “RSS feed”), I am proud to finally present, after a long testing time, a new guitar with an innovative and revolutionary project inside. It is my brainchild and it will start a new, fundamental chapter, al least within my work.
Continuing on the way started by Antonio de Torres and by the guitar making of the early 1900, looking for musicality of sound as well as for a light and simple instrument, I have transformed the internal structure of the soundboard, introducing an internal mobile device: the register.
I have obtained a light instrument with an extremely free and flexible soundboard, and a soundbox pitch in Eb (half tone lower than the sixth string) which gives deep and dense basses along with extraordinarily powerful and clear trebles. All this in an instrument with a very powerful sound volume. This new project radically changes the vibrating response of the soundboard and allows a fine final tuning of the guitar.
Here you can find the description of the guitar and if you click here you can see it as well.
01-07-07 Countdown to the Festival de Córdoba, a great and rich guitar festival in the city of Córdoba, Spain.
In this meeting I will expose my restoration (completed in 2005) of the guitar made by Antonio de Torres in 1864 and owned by Francisco Tárrega. Very interesting will be the discussion around Antonio de Torres, with the participation of José L. Romanillos.
Many great concerts are part of this festival, very beautiful those dedicated to Antonio de Torres played by Stefano Grondona as soloist and in duo with Laura Mondiello, and with the Guitar Ensamble Nova Lira Orfeo.
